Two Fjords Discovery

Kayak with whales, seals and birds in Ísafjarðardjúp Bay

The bay of Ísafjarðardjúp offers excellent kayaking for both beginners and experienced kayakers. The serene beauty of the fjord system is well known by locals, but a well kept secret from most others. With snow covered hills and Drangajökull glacier just around the corner, the coast of Snæfjallaströnd reminds you that you are only steps away from the Arctic Circle.

Folafótur, a small peninsula between the sheltered fjords of Seyðisfjörður and Hestfjörður, is a beautiful destination to paddle around while enjoying unique perspectives of marine wildlife and pristine coastline.

The tour begins with a scenic 40-minute car ride from Ísafjörður to the head of Seyðisfjörður, where we start paddling the calm waters along the coast. At the end of Folafótur Peninsula, we will make landing on the sandy beach to have lunch and explore the unusual rock formations as well as the remains of abandoned farmhouses. Throughout the trip we will keep an eye out for seals and whales that can often be spotted in the fjords.

If the weather is particularly good and the group is prepared, we can paddle the short distance from Folafótur to Vigur Island to enjoy its extraordinary bird life and relaxed atmosphere. Our final stretch is down the coast of Hestfjörður where we will eventually make landfall and drive home to Ísafjörður.
